DepressionI know what depression feels like. I've been there. You feel numb. People say depression is sadness, but sometimes you feel nothing at all. You can lay in bed all day staring at a wall because nothing else feels worth doing. Taking a shower takes all the energy you have. Forget about attending social events; even the idea of getting dressed seems impossible. You don't talk to people about it much because you don't want to bring other people down, and they won't really understand anyway. You just can't seem to "snap out of it", and you may begin to wonder if life is worth living this way.

Complex Trauma and PTSDYour childhood was less than ideal. You suffered some painful and challenging events back then, and you thought you did a good job at putting those things behind you and moving on with your life. But now you're experiencing some anxiety. Sometimes, you have unexplainable physical reactions in certain situations. You might experience insomnia or nightmares. You might be feeling detached in your relationships, unable to experience the intimacy you truly desire. Or maybe you recently witnessed or were involved in something horrible like a car accident, a robbery, or a sexual assault. Maybe life doesn't feel the same anymore, and even though you're trying to "get over it", that just doesn't seem possible.

AnxietyYou know rationally there's nothing to worry about. You have a roof over your head, food on the table, and money in your pocket. Your marriage is fine, and your kids are happy. But you can't seem to shake this feeling that something terrible is going to happen, and it's starting to disrupt your life. Or maybe you have a lot on your plate. You're doing your best to keep up with everything, but sometimes you have to call in sick and spend the day in bed with a blanket over your head because you just can't seem to pull yourself together. Or maybe you start feeling your heart rate accelerate and pressure in your chest. It's hard to breathe, and you think you're having a heart attack. Your doctor says it's a panic attack, but where did it come from? And is it going to happen again?
